Star Wars Clone Wars was okay. It was animated. Both my kids enjoyed it!
The reviews were abysmal but my 12 year old nephew still wanted to see it. He loved it. Myself, I found it more bearable than expected. It had kind of nice arabesque background music which was a slightly different fare than usual.

Poor Camili. :console: Focusing on the background music in hopes of finding something to enjoy! I recently saw the third Mummy and while it wasn't as good as the first two, it was pretty much what I expected. Not bad, just not great either.

Hey Cy - didn't the new Evelyn actress bother you? Clearly she was hired because she looked and sounded a lot like Rachel Weisz, and not for her acting chops. She just seemed really phony - like she was trying too hard. Didn't care for the guy who played the son either.

And then the final fight scene... I was thinking 'how on earth are they going to pull this off - this guy's way more powerful than the previous Mummy incarnation. Then they pull the 'fight like a man' thing? I dunno, if I were that guy I wouldn't have sacrificed my immortality for a scrap of honour after all those thousands of years!! Huh. I guess I expected more, so I was disappointed.

Thanks for the the sympathetic pat, Cy. :shy: None of the independent films I'd be interested in seeing are playing anywhere near here and so I pretty much don't go to the movies much unless my nephew wants to see something. It just seems that in recent years good mainstream films have become few and far between. Of course, it could be I'm just getting older and grumpier. :P

Thankfully, my nephew didn't want to go see Mummy III. Whew! I saw I & II and was thoroughly bored.

I was bummed that they replaced Rachel Weisz but I've liked Maria Bello for a long time. I think she's very pretty and quite honestly, she usually does a much better job than she did in the new Mummy movie. I think they were trying too hard to make her like Rachel. The british accent was a little contrived and she needed to just take the role and make it her own. Trying to fill someone else's shoes never works out, IMO.

See, now, I thought that was a riot! Brendan Fraser is funny to me even when he's not trying to be funny. Guess I'm weird like that. The end fight sequence was over-the-top epic and that made it amusing to me. I guess I like the Mummy movies cause I find them humorous to some degree. Go figure.

Word to the wise - never expect anything from a PG-13 flick. They will all be disappointing in some respect if you do. They are PG-13 for a reason, after all. Cheesiness and cliches are a requirement for that rating.

You like indie films, Camili? Why am I not surprised!! I like a couple of independent movies, but I find the majority of them to be.... well, not worth my time. Still, there are the rare gems that come along and make me keep an eye on the genre.

While I would love to blame my advancing age for this travesty, I'm afraid it's not that simple. Mainstream movies suck and that's because all the big picture companies are going with safe bets and they're all trying to cash in on this superhero craze right now. If you aren't nutso about action adventure comic book movies then you are screwed. But entertainment is just like anything else, the pendulum will start swinging the other way after awhile. No trend lasts forever.

Well, yeah, I'm not always in the mood for movies like the mummies. They're very simple, formulaic action adventure flicks. Not brain candy wrapped in emotional and psychological drama. Again, they're PG-13. Expect nothing and put your mind in stand-by.

Sometimes just having the Indie Banner generates a lot of critical acclaim but it is not always warranted. Last year's BABEL was one of those total waste of time and money films for me. [smilie=NONO.gif]

Two of my all time favorite DVD recommends, if you are looking for something different this summer, are City of God and Farewell My Concubine. The first is in Portuguese and the second in Mandarin which means - subtitles. 'Fraid so. But, better subtitles than ghastly dubbed English accents. Two movies which I am eagerly curling my toes for this year are Mongol (Genghis Kahn played by an actual Asian actor, what a novelty) and The Argentine with Benicio del Toro. [smilie=heart1.gif] It'll probably be winter before they come 'round my neck of the woods though. I do literally mean "woods".

Well then I'm screwed until further notice. :beams:

I went see MM again and enjoyed it more this time, what was strange there were more people seeing it, then the first time weeks ago - most movies audience goes down as the days and weeks go by, I talked to someone that works there and they said more people keep come seeing MM and it's not cooling down.

Hmm, must be your area 4light... or maybe just not my area. :P I don't even think Mama Mia is still playing at the theaters around here anymore.

Sadly, I have not even heard of these. I wish more independents would get played at the theaters. I'll have to fire up my Netflix account and add these two to the queue.

I don't think Mama Mia is playing around here either anymore unless it's on at the dollar movie theater.

We don't get any indie films playing around here either. Though, I think Cleveland has some kind of film festival once a year that shows some indie flicks.

Caught a pretty good movie on TV the other day. Equilibrium. It was kinda predictable, but I actually found myself enjoying the futuristic Matrix-like fight scenes. Which is weird for me. I usually yawn through fight scenes. Plus... it was Christian Bale! So... I think I've had a major crush on that man since Empire of the Sun!!

Hm, well, Cy, one word of advise - don't look up what Paul Reiser looks like now. Best we always remember him from Mad About You days. This word of advise also applies to anyone who knew me in long gone-by days, btw. Getting older is hell.

Oh, thanks. You just know I had to do just that... wow. Depressing. He's like 53 now! [smilie=pouty.gif]
